At Disability Equals Ability, we are dedicated to supporting the Nyashadzedu Disabled Trust, an organization that challenges stereotypes and promotes the inclusion of people with disabilities in Masvingo, Zimbabwe. Here’s how we contribute:
Nyashadzedu Disabled Trust’s Mission:
-
Empowerment: Engaging people with disabilities in self-help and community projects for sustainable livelihoods.
-
Access to Services: Advocating for medical aid, disability insurance, and other essential services.
-
Policy Advocacy: Leading anti-discrimination campaigns to foster inclusive policies and programs.
-
Partnerships: Collaborating with local, regional, and international organizations to support disability initiatives.
-
Support for Albinism: Providing spectacles and other resources to learners with albinism.
-
Development Programs: Addressing the basic and special needs of people with disabilities, particularly in rural areas.
-
Resource Acquisition: Acquiring property to further their objectives.
Our Contributions: In March/April, we proudly provided sun hats with big brims and Nivea sunscreen lotions to support individuals with albinism. Albinism presents several challenges, including vision impairments and increased susceptibility to sunburn and skin cancer. These individuals often face social obstacles and discrimination, affecting their education, employment, and social integration.
Future Initiatives:
We are actively raising funds for:
-
Corrective lenses and sunglasses
-
Lip balms with SPF 15
-
School fees and exercise books
By supporting these initiatives, we aim to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities and advocate for their inclusion in all aspects of society.
